Overview

VigorSwitch P1100 Gigabit 8+2 Port PoE+ Smart Switch

The DrayTek VigorSwitch P1100 Gigabit Ethernet switch is an 8-port device providing all ports with full-power PoE and four of them with extended power PoE+ (802.3at). PoE is ideal for any PoE-enabled devices, including:

  • IP telephones (for example as part of an IP PBX)
  • Wireless access points
  • IP Cameras (Network cameras)
  • Any other device supporting PoE (802.3af / 802.3at)

All 8 RJ-45 ports and the 2 SFP ports are full speed Gigabit (1000Mb/s) Ethernet. As well as ensuring that your wired Ethernet devices get maximum speed, Gigabit on PoE RJ-45 ports is is particularly useful on a network where your PoE devices are providing Gigabit devices to a secondary device, for example IP phone to desktop PC using their loop/passthrough support if it supports Gigabit Ethernet. The two Gigabit SFP ports to accept SFP modules (not supplied), such as for fibre connectivity/uplinks. Regular, non-PoE devices can still connect to the switch so will also still take advantage of the Gigabit speed so ideal for a mixed environment. The P1100 includes rack mounting bracket/kit as standard or it can be placed on a desk/shelf.

PoE - Power over Ethernet

PoE+ is a higher power version of PoE, required for some devices which require up to 30W, such as some external IP cameras or wireless transmission systems. PoE alleviates the need for local power supplies at the equipment location, instead providing the power to the unit over the Ethernet cable, with the data. Using PoE reduces clutter (multiple PSUs) and enables your equipment to be positioned where there is no power outlet. Using PoE also enables you to remotely reboot a device without having to climb up to or go to the device - just remove its Ethernet cable from the switch or remotely disable the port on the switch's management interface (GUI).

All ports are auto-sensing, meaning that they will only provide power when they detect a 802.3af/at compliant PoE device. That saves power and prevents compatibility issues or possible damage/hazard to non-PoE devices. The VigorSwitch P1100 is designed to meet its full specification - i.e. it can genuinely deliver the stated power, to all 8 ports simultaneously without overload or power being reduced on any ports.
