Vigor 2136ax internet connection was created by D
HI,
I've had my 2136ax for a week no and I'm unable to connect to my ISP.
I've update to 5.3.2 and did a factory reset, so everything is a default values.
The only option I've changed in the WAN configuration is the IPv4 Connection Type to PPPoE.
My username and password are correct.
However, it never connects.
I've looked at the user guide and have noticed the under WAN Connection Detection/Mode (page 17) it states there are more options than I have on my router. These are "Always On" and "ARP Detect", but these don't appear on my router.
Are there any other options missing that cause this router to not connect?
The router logs show:
2021-10-24 11:08:26
WAN
CHAP authentication failed
2021-10-24 11:08:25
WAN
[WAN] WAN1 IPv4 connection down
2021-10-24 11:08:20
WAN
CHAP authentication failed
2021-10-24 11:08:17
Any help will be much appreciated.

You don't mention which modem or other device you're using for the actual connection - could it be there that the issue lies?
The 2136 does not have a built-in modem....

Thanks for replying.
Sorry, I should have mentioned the type of connection.
It is FTTP connection so it's an ONT. According to BT's web site it is a Nokia modem.
This works as I currently have the ISP's router connected and it works.

Ah OK, thanks for clarifying. Hopefully someone with an ONT will be able to help you. Openreach apparently "have no plans" to bring FTTP to our little cul-de-sac, even though we are surrounded by streets with fibre equipped poles.....

Hi @D
You don't say who your ISP is, but the basic PPPoE FTTP settings required for most ISP's are as follows:-
Connection interface - WAN Ethernet
Customer VLAN tag insertion - Not usually set for Openreach lines or 911 for City Fibre lines
Service VLAN tag insertion - Not usually set, but depends on your ISP
Connection type - PPPoE
Username -
Password -
WAN connection detection - PPP Detect
Authentication - PAP/CHAP
You should be able to get all these values by logging in to the ISP supplied router and checking the WAN/PPPoE values,
Don't forget to click "Advanced Settings" on the Vigor 2136ax WAN config page - but I think all the Advanced Settings defaults are correct!
Good luck.
John.

Hi
Openreach FTTP connections are VLAN 0 for FTTP, 101 is for FTTC.
