Q&A Vigor 3910
ExpiredAt present, we've tested thoroughly with the DrayTek DAC-CX10 SFP/SFP+ cables. The router should be compatible with any SFP+ module, it's a standard interface but we don't have a compatibility list for SFP / SFP+ modules right now. We don't lock the SFP+ port to any specific hardware so there isn't any hardware restriction applied. With 3rd party modules make sure they're SFP+ and aren't locked to a specific vendor.
There are no current plans for a DrayTek SFP+ to 10GBase-T transceiver module. We have had reports from customers that the 10Gtek 10Gb/s SFP+ RJ45 Copper Transceiver (10GBase-T: 30m) module works well with the Vigor 3910. For regular 1Gb or 2.5Gb RJ-45, we recommend using the 1GB RJ-45 port or the 2.5Gig RJ-45 port.
Yes, ACS2 will be fully compatible soon. VigorACS 2.5.4 will fully support the Vigor 3910 router. Let us know if you want a beta version of the ACS Software. This version of ACS is expected to be released within Q1'2020.
This will be available from the 3.9.2 firmware release. You can download a release candidate of the 3.9.2 firmware from the DrayTek UK site right now to make use of the feature. Please be aware that the Data Flow monitor can not be enabled in the 3.9.2_RC1 firmware. The 3.9.2 firmware is expected to be released within Q1'2020.
One Vigor 3910 can manage up to 50 VigorAPs and 30 VigorSwitches, either locally or across a VPN tunnel.
Currently only the Vigor 3910 will support the new export option. This may be rolled out to some other new models. Please check with our tech support if you need a particular model to have that functionality.
Going foward we expect it to be '2862 like', Vigor 3900 runs Linux based OS, and the Vigor 3910 is based on DrayOS. Both are supported and new FW releases will be released. Vigor 3910 will only run DrayOS, and hopefully you will find it easier to manage since you are familiar with v2862s.
The configuration import feature isn't currently able to import configurations between dissimilar models with different WAN / LAN designs. You can export the Firewall configuration and VPN configuration from the Vigor 2862 to import into the Vigor 3910.
This is something that we're looking into. The VPN configuration can potentially be exported from the Vigor 3900 and imported into a Vigor 3910 configuration file. Please contact support for assistance with this.
There are no plans to change the firmware type of the Vigor 3900 to DrayOS, that's specific to the Vigor 3910 and other new products.
Support for the USB ports will be added in a future firmware version after 3.9.2, which does not support USB. This is currently planned for Q1 2020. The USB ports will support USB storage initially and should also support the Temperature Sensor.
The router is passively cooled and does not have a fan.
The Vigor 3910 can be connected to xDSL with an xDSL to Ethernet modem / bridge, such as the Vigor 130 ADSL/VDSL2 to Ethernet modem. Line status for each modem can be viewed from the Online Status page if using the Vigor 130 modem. There will be products announced later this year that support G.Fast.
The ports 5,6,7,8 are switched as a group, so those ports can be either a group of 4 WAN ports or a group of 4 LAN ports. If this is something you'd like to see improved, please contact support so that we can investigate whether they could be managed independently in a future firmware release.
The Vigor 3910 does support OpenVPN with currently released 3.9.1.2 firmware, however it's not fully hardware accelerated yet. Current throughput is 50mbps, but this will increase in a later firmware version.
The Vigor 3910 can be connected via VPN tunnel to any other DrayTek or non-DrayTek VPN router.
The hardware acceleration means that there should be very little difference between the two, we've seen 3gbps throughput with IKEv2 AES256-SHA256 encryption and the same when using AES128-SHA1.
The DrayTek SmartVPN software is available for Windows, macOS, iOS (iPad, iPhone) and Android OS. There isn't currently a Linux version of the SmartVPN client available, but if that's something you'd like to see, please contact the support team so that we can look into that. Please note that full hardware acceleration of SSL VPN requires the 3.9.2 firmware, a release candidate can be downloaded from the DrayTek UK downloads page.
At present, this is limited to 2 connections per VPN trunk but it should be possible to expand this to more connections in a later firmware version.
The Vigor 3910 was launched on 12th December 2019 and is available to purchase today.
