Sending Configuration Change Notifications Using Smart Action

Products:
Vigor 2962
Vigor 3910
Keywords:
Router
Smart Action
Telegram

The Smart Action feature with configuration change notifications by Telegram is helpful for monitoring your Vigor Router. If the router, or a server operating through it becomes unstable or suddenly stops working, you can quickly check the Telegram messages to see whether any recent configuration changes might have caused the issue.

Using the built-in Smart Action profiles, you can easily locate specific keywords and create a User-Defined Smart Action that includes only the information you care about. This article will guide you through the steps to set up this feature.

1. Register a TelegramBot.

Follow the instructions in the Knowledge Base article:

How to set up a Telegram Bot on Vigor Router

2. Clone the Built-In Profile for Configuration Changes

Go to Applications >> Smart Action >> Built-In. Look through the list and find the event labeled "config change", which is in profile index 29 (refer to the Comment column). Click the Clone button to copy it for customization.

3. Apply the Profile and Name It.

Choose where the profile will be applied, and give it a unique name to identify it easily.

4. Edit the User-Defined Profile

After cloning, the profile will appear under the User-Defined tab. Click the profile index to open the editor.

5. Configure the Action Settings

Expand the Action Category section, and

    • Select "System" as the Action Category
    • Select "Telegram" as the Action Type
    • Replace in the Server URL field with your actual bot token
    • Edit the POST Content:
      • Fill in your chat_id
      • Customize the message content using available variables:

  • (Optional) Add multiple Action Categories if needed (e.g., send Telegram + Syslog).
  • Click OK to save the profile.

6. After completing the setup, Smart Action will notify the network administrator via Telegram whenever a configuration change occurs. The administrator will be able to see who made the change, when it happened, and what setting was modified.
