WPA3 issues was created by colni
Hi All,
Router mode - 2866ac
Firmware version - 4.5.1_BT
Due to a some renovation work ive been having recently i had to move several computers and gaming devices off wired internet and onto wireless
During this i found some of my devices were having issues connecting to my 5GHZ network, the same issue wasnt present on the 2.4GHZ network
I had been having on and off issues with my google pixel 8 where it struggled to connect to the 5GHZ network , which i assumed was down to signal issues or a phone issue
the symptoms of the phone was that it would try to connect to the network , send auth then be disconnected , i could do this several times and finally it would connect , it was rather frustrating
when i attempted to move a PS5 onto the 5GHZ wireless network it was present the same issue , it appears to connect then is suddenly dropped , attempted several more connections and then it suddenly connected
after doing some reading up on the PS5 i mistakenly thought it might not support WPA3 and decided to switch from Mixed WPA2 + WPP3 to just WPA2 and everything is connecting first time and quickly
Is there an issue with WPA3 in mixed mode?
i need to do further tested to see if a pure WPA3 mode has the same problem but im curious is anybody has seen this kind of problem before?
im going to guess the reason the client finally connects is due it to finally falling back to WPA2

Yes, exactly same issue.
Appears to be yet another failing of the 'ac' chipset that was used in that generation of models - the 'ax' models of the same time seem fine.

As far as I'm concerned it's a fundamentally weak chipset - there's nothing they can do - and given it's age now, why would they bother?

I guess that is a fair point given the age however considering the wpa2 weakness it's a little concerning
My opinion is draytek need to offer more up to date hardware really , the wifi 6 line is limited and they are still selling the AC models with this flaw
