C410ax router, AP905 access points - external mesh options?

I've got a small set-up with a C410ax router and three AP905 access points. They're all connected via Ethernet and the mesh works well.

I've checked the Mesh compatibility page and their does not seem to be an external AP that will mesh with the C410ax and AP905s.

Is this the case or have I overlooked and option?

Assuming by "external" you mean "outdoor" then yes, you're right in saying that none of the compatibility lists show an outdoor AP that will mesh with those devices. However, is there actually any significant advantage in having the outdoor AP in a mesh, as opposed to straight AP mode?

Yes, I do mean outdoor. The location is a new build and well insulated with foil backed insulation panels. It's something of a faraday cage!

I'd like to be able to move from inside the house, through  the patio doors to the outside and have the WiFi continue to work so have assumed a mesh with indoor and outdoor APs is the way go go.

I've run a set up of four AP's - three AP906 and one AP905 - in both mesh mode and stand-alone AP mode (all on the same channels and SSID's, one of them in a garage detached from the house) and not noticed any significant difference when roaming from one area to another in either mode. My understanding (and I could well be wrong, I often am) is that "mesh" mode simply allows for an AP to "take over" the duties of another AP should the latter go down. But it is also said that it's the client device which decides which AP to connect to, and on that topic you may see recommendations to turn off "assisted roaming" as more trouble than it's worth, but you can play with it if you like in both mesh and stand-alone modes. The very fact that Draytek provide an "assisted roaming" setting in mesh mode suggests to me that the "meshing" part of it has nothing to do with client roaming.

Thanks. I'll probably end up doing what you did.

If you do and have to use WDS to connect AP's (all mine are wired) you may find this article useful https://www.draytek.com/support/knowledge-base/5178
